Plastic Beauty Brigade

Beauty Society needs your help PLEASE READ
Some plastics are rarely or never recycled, even when a curbside recycling program accepts them. These plastics are not only a threat to the environment ending up buried, in our oceans and washed up on our beaches, but they are a serious threat to your health as they break down into harmful chemicals. Beauty Society Salon a certified Organic non-toxic hair salon in Malta NY is building on it’s commitment for responsible recycling. Beauty Society is beginning a plastic recycling brigade for charity. By sponsoring an ongoing brigade for recycling, we hope to bring more awareness to this worldwide problem. Plastic is a pollutant that cannot be ignored anymore it does not break down in the environment. Our throw away lifestyles have created havoc on the environment and ourselves. Some people may not have a concern for the environment but everyone knows someone who has had cancer. At least two thirds of all cancers are proven to be caused by environmental factors. Plastics are a major concern, especially in the beauty industry, it is among the worst polluters in the modern industrialized world depositing billions of bottles in landfills every year. We do carry the world’s first salon products that are packaged using biodegradable fruit and vegetable cellulose. However, this is just one company. In homes everything you bring in practically has some sort of plastic packaging. Many of these plastics are hormone disruptors. These disruptors can cause cancerous tumors, birth defects and other developmental disorders. Plastics do not break down and are found in our lakes, oceans, wash up on our beaches being detrimental to our marine life. We then eat fish and other animals contaminated by the plastic and drink the water contaminated by plastic. In 2009, a U.N. joint commission estimated that 6.4 million metric tons of plastic waste currently pollutes our oceans. We need to re think plastic. We buy it, bury it, burn it, toss it and ignore it-it cannot be ignored anymore.
OUTSMART WASTE- Bring all your hard to recycle recyclables to Beauty Society 899-7570
The plastic will then be sent out for up-cycling into a cool new usable product. Best of all the plastic waste will be credited and sent to local charity or non-profit!

Hello friends,
My name is William Connolly. As long as I can remember, I have been inspired to be a hairdresser.  After 25 years, I am still living the dream and I get paid to do something we all love.

My new passion is pin up hair. Pin-up styles brings out the old school roller and pin curl sets we all trained for in Cosmetology school.
Now the best part is we get to reinvent the wheel that is hair.  I still have the same incredible drive of creating and defining hair that I always have had. However, I no longer do mass production hair in volumes.  I like to declare my work as ‘Craft Hair’. This evaluation as a stylist first came to fruition six years ago when I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Our work as colorists is inhairently dangerous (excuse the pun). Ammonia is the cause of my bladder cancer
and hair color is the culprit.  There is a direct link between ammonia and cancer.

The reason to go with Organic color systems was simple for me.  No ammonia. Let me make this clear, my career as a colorist would have ended had it not been without Organic Color Systems and I thank them for it.  Our salon has been organic for 6 years now. Clients
love the clean smell as they enter and feel great about the organic experience from the shampoo and conditioners to  color and styling products.  We feel good knowing we are not harming the client or ourselves with chemicals that destroy our lives and our planet.  As an Ambassador for Organic Color Systems, the door has been opened for me to work with not only cancer patients but others with health issues who are looking for alternatives to conventional hair color and chemically laden products to a true organic experience. This transformation allows them to begin to feel good about themselves knowing that they have alternatives.

I am also passionate about education.  My background as an educator was founded when I met the owner of Matrix Essentials, Arnie Miller. Arnie gave me my first job as an educator teaching other colorists. My time with Matrix lasted 10 years and that inspiration led me back to college for vocational education and teaching.  Our job as educators is not to show how much we know, but to inspire others to become there best. To dig deeper inside yourselves and define your love of what you do!

It is an honor to be a part of the Organic Color System’s team. I am grateful and thank you. In closing, we can teach someone to do hair, we can not teach them to love hair. Find your passion; life is way too short not to have fun. William

GRATITUDE

Gratitude

Fall for many people feels like the start of a new year with the transition of warm to cold weather. Harvest season where everything is in abundance and then the dieing off or hibernation for a new beginning.   School is in full swing with new schedules, and the beginning of holiday season.

With this, there are many things we can feel grateful for at the Beauty Society

Most important of all is our clients.

Many of our clients have been with us from the beginning which is over 21 years now.  We are blessed to have this wonderful family of clients that we have grown up with and have supported us throughout all these years with everything that we have been through and accomplished.

We also are grateful for all of our new clients who come to us and share their thoughts and ideas.

The main thing that we found even though we are all so different and come from different parts of the world we all share the same ideals.  We are all of the same like minds trying to do better for ourselves and the world.  It is nice to see our long term and new clients come together and share their life stories and their own business networking together in one place.

Many clients over the years have moved away and still keep in touch, some moving back and reuniting.

Connections, that is what it is about and growing to be better people.

In this past year and always we are changing things up with moving to the front of our building, new sinks, styling chairs and new products.  We are grateful for Organic Color Systems introducing us to carry O’right, Keragreen, and Hanz-de –Fuko.  Soon we will have a new product line to introduce.  A hemp product line – Wonder Seed.

We would also like to introduce a new family sharing space in our building.

Flynn Family Chiropractic.  Kevin and Jackie Flynn have moved back to the area from Adams, Masssachusetts.  We welcome them to our community and wish them great success.  We know that once you meet them, you will feel that same knowing of what great people they are, making you feel comfortable and at ease.  Please, stop by to meet them.  Chiropractic care is such an important part of our health and Kevin and Jackie make it easy for everyone to enjoy the benefits. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beauty-Society-Salon/147057708448?ref=streamhttp://www.flynnfamilychiropractic.com

If you happen to stop by on a Tuesday, you can also say hello to Tara and Luke from Quincy Farms, CSA.  You can view all the beautiful, fresh produce they offer out of our garage and sign up for a share for next year. http://www.quincyfarm.net/

This past February 6, we had to say see you soon to our baby, Chloe.  The great 19 years we had with our Chloe who is always in our hearts and we still and always get choked up thinking and talking about her as the tears well up right now. Thinking back how many lives she touched, made people happy and all of her travels with us.  We thank the universe for every day we had her.

We welcomed Lilly coming into our lives this summer.  She was a somewhat last minute surprise and that night coming to the salon our clients with the suggestion of one particular, Lisa Murphy named Lilly.  Lisa knew Chloe from the beginning as she has been a member of the Beauty Society since we established, making the occasion very happy.  Lilly  is making us smile and laugh again she is teaching us every day to live life  in the moment  as she greets us like we have not seen her in years even if it has only been a few seconds.  She has grown up so fast, learning new tricks and ringing her doggie door bell to go outside entertaining everyone.

Last and very important, we have much gratitude for all of our health and the beautiful world and community that we live in.  All because of YOU.  Thank you we appreciate every single one of you and every person we meet in our lives.

Please, we love to here your ideas and feedback on how we can be better at our business and to make you beautiful.  Always appreciating and are open to your honesty.

THANK YOU

Cristina and William
